Chronologically, Code: Veronica takes place before Resident Evil 4, which is why some fans of the franchise were disappointed when the RE4 remake was announced before a Code: Veronica remake. Nearly two decades later, Capcom moved forward with a highly-successful remake of Resident Evil 2, which spawned remakes of Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4. The first Resident Evil remake came in 2002 when Capcom remade the original Resident Evil from the ground-up with significantly enhanced graphics and new gameplay features. Despite this, Capcom has seemingly skipped over Code: Veronica in its line of Resident Evil remakes. Even though it's not a numbered entry in the long-running survival-horror franchise, Resident Evil Code: Veronica is an extremely important game story-wise, and was developed as the true successor to Resident Evil 2. Capcom has given Resident Evil fans new hope that Resident Evil Code: Veronica could be getting a remake at some point down the line.
